भारतीय रेलवे | Indian Railway Recruitment Jobs – An Overview

The Indian railway is huge system working day and night so as to provide the transport and travelling services to people. The system covers entire India and rather say connects entire India. Since, the system is functioning properly means the employees and workers are undertaking their duties properly. The new workers which are hired and taken into the system are also well deserving and qualified. Credit goes to the efficient Railway Recruitment Process that picks up only the suitable candidates as employees.

Indian railways comprises of 17 zones which are further diversified into 68 divisions. Each zone is supervised by the GM (General Manager) while divisions are controlled by the DRM (Divisional Railway Manager). Below these GMs and DRMs number of engineers, accountants, technicians and other employees are working in various departments. These employees are divided in a hierarchical manner into Grade- A, B, C and D Officers. Indian Railways is the biggest recruiter in India. Annually, number of exams is carried out for the various vacancies in the Indian Railway departments.

The recruitment and recruiting bodies are dependent on these grades. Like for the grade ‘A’ officer (Gazetted Officer – Highest Grade) selection is done by carrying out Civil Services Exams and Combined Engineer Services Exam carried out by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).The civil service exam includes Indian railway Traffic, Account, Personnel and Protection Force Services. Combined Engineering Service Exam includes Mechanical, Electrical, Signal and other Engineering Services. Special Class Railway Apprentice exam is also carried out by UPSC for hiring candidates in Mechanical Department of Indian Railways.

Group ‘B’ officers (Gazetted Officer) are the promoted officers from the lower group ‘C’. Selection of these Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ officers (Non-Gazetted Officer) is carried on the RRCB (Railway Recruitment Control Board) and RRC (Railway Recruitment Cell). They are mainly recruited on the zonal basis. The recruitment is made for both technical and non-technical departments and posts. Candidates in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, telecommunication engineering disciple can apply for technical posts while assistants, clerks, ticket checkers, station masters etc are the non-technical posts.

The selection criterion varies from post to post. Mainly written exams are conducted by the authorities to judge the candidates. Further face-to face interviews, group discussion and medical tests are also carried out by the recruitment cell. Authority can undertake any kind of test that is necessary for the post. Written test is based on subjects involves knowledge for the work. Aptitude, General Awareness, Numerical ability are common in the written tests .besides, for engineering posts question paper may also be set according to the engineering subjects. Call letters are issued to the candidates qualifying these entrance stages and are readily hired by the Indian railways.
